A crossword clue often comes down to a known length with a few filled squares and the rest blank.
This solver matches words to your pattern, using ? for each blank square, and lets you exclude letters you have already ruled out.

- Rule out letters that do not fit.
Good to know
The pattern length sets the word length, and each non-blank position must match exactly; the exclude option removes words containing letters you know are wrong. Underscores and dots also count as blanks. It uses an English word list, so accents, non-English letters and proper nouns may not appear; use ? for one unknown letter.
Frequently asked questions
How do I enter blanks?
Use ? for each unknown square; underscores and dots work too. Filled squares use the actual letters in their positions.
Does the length matter?
Yes. The number of squares in your pattern fixes the word length, so only words of that exact length are shown.
What if the clue does not match?
Double-check the letters you are sure of, try fewer fixed letters, and use exclude to remove wrong letters.
